Let me introduce myself, and think about things that you may like to know about me…

My name is Jodie, and I married my partner of 10 years in 2018. Before getting married I didn’t truly understand the magic of the day. The amount of warmth, the feeling of love and of being loved, the smiles and tightest squeezes all day. It really is unforgettable, and so special.

We have two incredibly high-spirited boys and watching their lust for learning about the natural world is inspiring.

I love being part of your wedding journey!

MUSINGS

Nature is what motivates me

Have you ever sat outside in your garden, or in a meadow, or by water and just watched?  Just sat there still for more than 10 minutes?

It fills my heart and calms my mind.

To watch the bees (I have a slight obsession with them); so incredibly busy, so many different species. To spend time watching each day as a tadpole turns into a frog, how incredibly far a grasshopper can jump for it’s size, the gracefulness of a snail emerging from its shell, the way that a wildflower survives in the most inhospitable place and bringing a beauty like nothing else, or finally spotting a camouflaged fish in a stream that’s been right under your nose for 5 minutes.

This is my magic, my sparkle, the thing that never fails to bring me joy.

Flowers are what inspire me

I love working with flowers. I adore working with seasonal English grown flowers!

Their twisting rambling nature and the way they change throughout the seasons.

A garden Rose that opens slowly into the most magnificent bloom with so many layers and a scent that just keeps you coming back for more, a Lily of the Valley that is so magical because of it’s short flowering period, a fern that unfurls into the most amazing texture, a sweet pea stem that has a kink to it where it’s tried to find that last minute of sunlight.

Flowers at their best, in their most organic state; textured, raw, imperfectly perfect.

Our world is what makes me want to do better

I trained as a florist 14 years ago, when floral foam was how you did flowers: making impossible designs possible and easy.  There was no question to it - even if you created rustic wild designs, it was still arranged into floral foam.

Over the past 4 years I have educated myself on the damaging consequences of using this form of single-use plastic, and how the microplastics can run down our drains and into our water systems.

Slowly but surely, over the years I have trialled and researched alternative ways, and found that without the foam, flowers can look a lot more relaxed - moving as nature intended, rather than stuck exactly where you expect them to be.

There is now, more than ever, an exciting movement within the industry, sharing techniques and knowledge (old and new) and moving towards a more sustainable way of working.

I always tell my boys that you should never stop learning, never stop trying and to question everything.

I’ve also been known as The Walled Garden at Mells and as Walled Garden Weddings.

Life moves, things change, and that’s what makes it all so exciting!
